At Goldsmith Podiatry, we’re always available to answer questions for our patients, but we know it’s very frustrating to realize on your way home from an appointment that you forgot to ask an important question about your condition. That’s why we recommend that you write down any concerns or questions you have and bring the list with you to the appointment. Below are other ways that you can prepare for your upcoming appointment to ensure that it’s productive and efficient.

Get your paperwork together. If you are being treated for an injury or chronic condition, our podiatrists, Dr. Howard Goldsmith and Dr. Rosanna Troia, will want to see any medical records, x-rays, or test results that would not already be on file in our Upper West Side office. It’s also important to provide the foot doctor with a list of any medications (prescription and non-prescription) that you are currently taking.

Do your homework. Check with your insurance provider to see if you need a referral for your appointment.  Also inquire whether or not there is a co-pay for your visit.

Consider your shoe selection. No, we’re not interested in your fashion sense, but if your foot pain is worse when you wear a particular pair of shoes or is related to an exercise activity, it’s a good idea to wear or bring those shoes with you to our Manhattan office. The wear pattern of the shoe may provide helpful information in diagnosing your foot problem.

Phone in special needs. Are you in a wheelchair or have other access needs for your appointment? Don’t hesitate to call us ahead of time at: (212) 877-1002 and let us know how we can best accommodate you and make your visit as comfortable as possible.

All of these preparatory steps will help your appointment go smoothly and aid the podiatrist in delivering the best care possible to you. Be sure before you leave our office that you have a clear understanding of your diagnosis, treatment plan and the necessary follow up. And, of course, always feel free to contact us if additional questions or concerns arise.
