4 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Feet
At Goldsmith Podiatry, we know it’s that time when our Manhattan patients are making resolutions for self-improvement. We think it’s a great time to commit to better podiatric health too. Below are some suggestions for resolutions for healthier feet in 2023.
Commit to a daily foot care regimen. It’s not hard or time-consuming! Just wash your feet every day with soap and water (dry thoroughly). Start each day with clean socks, and dust with a foot or antifungal powder if your feet tend to sweat excessively. Before bed, apply moisturizing lotion to prevent dry skin.
Choose footwear that helps, not hurts your feet. It’s out with the old, and a great time to get rid of shoes that are stretched out, damaged, or showing other signs of wear. Now is also the time to toss shoes that hurt your feet when you wear them. Wearing properly fitting, well-designed footwear is the best way to proactively protect the health of your feet. Shoes should have good arch support, a roomy toe box, and made of flexible, breathable materials. Avoid heels over two inches and pick chunky heels or wedges over spiky styles.
Pay closer attention to your feet. Get in the healthy habit of examining your feet daily. Look for changes such as discoloration of the skin or toenails, bruises, cuts that don’t seem to be healing, hair loss, lumps, etc. If you see something suspicious or you are experiencing pain or discomfort, talk to one of our podiatrists, Dr. Howard Goldsmith, Dr. Rosanna Troia, and Dr. Kristina Ruff. Many common foot problems can be easily and quickly resolved if treated in their earliest stages. Contact our Upper West Side office by calling: 212-877-1002 for an appointment.
Make healthier lifestyle choices. The health of your feet is about more than your feet. Eating a nutritious diet that gives your body the vitamins and minerals it needs and helps you maintain an appropriate weight has a significant impact on your feet. Not smoking and regular exercise will also improve foot health significantly.
We wish all our patients a Happy, Healthy New Year!
