Fixing Unsightly Foot Problems

At Goldsmith Podiatry, we have a question for our Manhattan patients: Are your feet summer-ready? Or, when you look at your feet, are you less than happy with what you see? In another couple of months, feet will be on display in strappy sandals and lounging by the pool. Now is the time to address issues that make you feel self-conscious about your feet. Below are three common culprits.

1.   Toe Deformities—Toes that move out of place, bend at awkward angles or overlap another toe are not just an esthetic concern. Bunions, hammertoes, and other deformities can eventually impact your ability to walk and comfortably wear shoes. If you were shocked by the change in your toe’s appearance after being closed in shoes and boots all winter, it’s essential to recognize these are progressive conditions. There are, however, ways to slow the progression and even correct the deformity. The amount of time this will take will depend on the severity of the condition.

2.   Warts—No one likes the looks of these fleshy raised bumps on the soles, sides, and other parts of your feet, but often patients put off getting them treated because they may not be painful.  A virus causes warts, and it can spread. Don’t try to get rid of them on your own. Many over-the-counter products contain strong chemicals and acids which may burn or damage healthy skin tissue surrounding the wart.

3.   Fungal Toenails—You can’t just hide these under a coat of pretty nail polish. In addition to causing nails to become discolored, toenail fungus also leads to thickening of the nail and crumbling at the edges. We offer traditional topical and oral medications and also the newest treatment modality for this condition, laser therapy.

If you are suffering from one of these conditions or have another podiatric problem that is making your feet look less attractive, contact our Upper West Side office at 212-877-1002 and let our podiatrists, Dr. Howard Goldsmith and Dr. Rosanna Troia, examine your feet and determine the best treatment for getting your feet ready for summer styles.
