Resolve to Take Better Care of Your Feet in 2021

Although the ball will drop to an empty Times Square this year, we know one thing that will stay the same is the custom of making New Year’s resolutions. At Goldsmith Podiatry, we’d like to encourage our Manhattan patients to consider committing to improving podiatric health. Better foot health habits don’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. So, this year why not resolve to:

  • ·Not put off getting foot pain evaluated. It’s easy to find excuses for why now is not a good time to go to the foot doctor. But delaying diagnosis and treatment of a foot problem can lead to a seriously debilitating condition. Make an appointment at our Upper West Side NYC office by calling (212) 877-1002 so our podiatrists, Dr. Howard Goldsmith and Dr. Rosanna Troia, can examine your feet and find the source of your discomfort.

  • Put foot health before fashion. Cute boots that lack arch support, high heels that force your feet forward, and pointy tips that cram your toes together are a few examples of footwear that can harm your feet. Conditions such as bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails, and plantar fasciitis can be due to poor footwear choices.

  • Wear the right shoe for your fitness activity. With COVID, many patients have had to revamp their exercise routines. If you’ve switched to an entirely different activity, there’s a good chance your athletic shoes are no longer serving your needs. Sports shoes are designed specifically for the sport they are intended for. If you’ve updated your fitness routine, make sure you update your footwear as well to avoid injury.

  • Not shortcut basic foot care. Washing your feet daily with soap and water and applying a moisturizing lotion each night and a foot powder in the morning are some simple ways to protect your feet. Keeping up with toenail care — trimming regularly, smoothing jagged nails, and checking for ingrown toenails — are all important and don’t take too much time.

  • Keep that exercise resolution. While your feet may not be the primary reason for committing to a fitness program, they will benefit by you maintaining a healthy weight and improving circulation.

We wish all our Manhattan patients a Happy and Healthy New Year!
